Baltimore police pepper spray and handcuff man for standing on street wearing a "Fuck the Police" t-shirt.

Courtesy of Raw Story:

In dramatic footage captured by the Associated Press, an unidentified Baltimore protester wearing a “F*ck the police” t-shirt is pepper sprayed before being dragged to the ground by his hair.

As the man stands impassively in the street with his arms at his side, an officer walks up to him and, without provocation, sprays his face with pepper spray. As the man attempts to shake it off, not even reaching upwards to his face, the officer then grabs him by his hair and flings him to the ground as fellow officers swarm all over him.

After being dragged to the sidewalk another officer pours water on his face as he lays moaning on the ground, his hands bound behind him.

Now I will probably get some blow back for saying this but I think it is clear that the man brought all of that on himself.

I have watched the video a couple of times to be sure, but in my mind there is no denying that this man was standing in the street while being black.

You can argue with me all you want, but I know what I saw. The man is clearly being totally black right in front of the police officers.

At the end of the day really what choice did they have?

If they are doing shit like this when the world is watching I can't imagine what they are doing ( yes I can, killing people) when we are not watching.

I second that. And... I have a confession to make. I'm in my 20s, white, and live in a small town of mostly white people. I'd heard plenty of stories over the years about how the police unfairly targeted black people.

I figured that it probably happened sometimes, but not as a rule. How wrong I was. My guess is that I'm not the only person who is realizing this. Hooray for technology!

Worse, the officer who did the spraying was wearing a white shirt. Isn't that supposed to be a higher ranking person? Poor judgment even up the ranks.

Pepper spray is oil-based. You really need vinegar (or possibly lemon juice) to cut through it.

However, the officer DOES get credit for trying to diminish the suffering.

The cop spraying someone simply for exercising their First Amendment rights (both as to the T-shirt and the protest) needs to be taken off active duty and educated as to the law. He also needs to be sued.

I agree with you. If Bristol, Willow or Sarah were wearing those shirts over a thong-dress with Naughty Monkey pumps, a Jesus belt buckle and $300 sun glasses, they wouldn't get hassled.

The Palin's have a long recorded animosity toward law enforcement officers, from Sarah being a mavericky kid snowmachin'in (when the Trooper should have just been helping old ladies with their grocery bags) to having them tell her to strap her kids in a car seat, or not leave them unattended in the vehicle while she visited with friends, or traveled unescorted as a "pregnant lady," with a vulnerable fetus halfway across the country, to vandalizing a family friend's house on the market, cutting break lines, or messing with war memorial with Obamagates, I mean, rilly, if they aren't on the Palin's side, they are un-American and a waste of taxpayers money.

Look at the way the police officers dragged him. If the man's arm are pulled out of his sockets will the police say it happened before they walked up to him?

Arms were not meant to be used to drag a grown man's body in that manner. He's already handcuffed, why not help him stand up and walk him to the curb like they do white men?

Jokes of The Day for May 4, 2015

Ben Carson, Carly Fiorina and Mike Huckabee are reportedly about to officially announce their candidacies for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination. These announcement are widely expected to be followed by related announcements in early 2016 that they are giving up their laughably doomed-to-fail efforts.

When the black boy was shot in the back while running away from the police officer, you people complained about that.

When the black boy was shot because he was eating Skittles in a neighborhood he shouldn't have been in, you people complained about that.

When the black boy in Baltimore died because he had a defective spine from birth, you people complained about that and blamed the police officers who gave him a ride.

You people need to stop complaining and blaming the police officers who were only doing their jobs.

It looks like egregious behavior on the part of the police. However, there are some problems with the video.
    1. Was he defying orders to disperse and go home? Was the curfew in force?
    2. Was he told to put his hands on his head and refused? (probably not)
    3. Why didn't the police say, "Turn around and put your hands on your head," before macing him?
    4. Why drag him instead of helping him to his feet?
    5. If you watch carefully, you can see his face hit the curb as they drag him.
    6. Why was the cop in the middle who was helping drag him laughing?

I live across the street from a retired police officer. We always called him Officer to Sit and Observe as he would get out the lawn chair and park himself on the driveway and eye the good looking divorced gal that lives a couple of doors down the street.

When the Baltimore mess up was going on, the former cop came rolling down the street in his vehicle with the windows down and the radio blasting. Rush Limbaugh was ranting about young, black men with no jobs, blah, blah, blah.....

This former officer was a trainer at the Police Academy for nearly 20 years. He taught traffic stops, baton, and officer safety etc.

I always wondered who really listened to Limbaugh. This guy was training our police force. Republican, womanizer, and racist. I could say much more....but needed to vent.

The white leaders in Baltimore keep talking about the cops and how many were hurt and how many they have visited to wish them well! What about the black folks that they/cops beat and hurt behind the scenes? No one is giving them credence or concern on the white side of leadership in Baltimore!

Cops should be watched and video used constantly (by residents) when they are around. Do not trust them at all and would never call them to my home! I'd use family members and neighbors for help.

Okay, I watched the YouTube video 3 times and whomever reported on Raw Story got the narrative wrong. The story reported that a police officer pepper sprayed the man and then states "the officer then grabs him" by the hair.

The video actually shows that it was 2 officers. The first officer that sprayed the protester in the face is wearing a white shirt, which indicates he has a higher rank than the street/beat cops. After the protester tries shaking it off, another cop (blue uniform with no white shirt) pulls him by the hair and takes him down. The man is then surrounded and dragged away.

When the man is on the ground and other officers are pouring water on his face, the cop that dragged him by the hair is seen to the left but he is not helping the man.

I hope more information will come out on this story - it just doesn't look like we have the full story or a complete video.
