Andrew Halcro decides he cannot keep quiet any longer, endorses Ethan Berkowitz for Mayor of Anchorage.

Courtesy of Alaska Dispatch:

Former Anchorage mayoral candidate Andrew Halcro has offered a last-second endorsement of Ethan Berkowitz, one of the two candidates in Tuesday’s runoff election.

Halcro, a centrist Republican who used to lead the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce, placed third in the initial round of balloting last month, behind Berkowitz, a Democrat, and Republican Amy Demboski, the other candidate in Tuesday’s runoff.

The top two finishers stand in the runoff if neither reached 45 percent of the vote in the first round. The election is officially non-partisan, but both Demboski and Berkowitz have received partisan backing.

Halcro, who got 21.5 percent of the vote last month, initially said he would not endorse either Berkowitz or Demboski. But in a Facebook post late Sunday, Halcro encouraged his supporters to vote for Berkowitz, saying he was worried about Demboski’s honesty, integrity, and maturity, “and her decision to allow the most extreme elements of the Republican Party to lead her campaign.”

Halcro said that the catalyst for him was Demboski's ugly attacks against Berkowitz:

“After the last week, it was like, ‘I’m sorry, I can’t bite my tongue any more,’” Halcro said. “To watch this campaign degrade over the last two weeks into this personal attack at Ethan was just way too much.”

"At any point in time, Amy could have stopped this," Halcro added.

There are a lot of reasons to disagree with Halcro politically, but he is clearly a man of integrity.

Remember if you are a resident of Anchorage, it is imperative that you get out and vote tomorrow.

Because trust me, Jerry Prevo is going to have his followers bussed to the polls in support of Demboski if need be.

Time for the voters to use the ballot box and put a righteous ass whipping on Pastor Pervo and his talibangelical butt puppets.

The folks that brought you Governor Palin and Joe Miller for Senate, and the party planner/radio host.

Thank you, Andrew! I have already cast my vote for Ethan Berkowitz, via absentee ballot.

Get out the vote, Anchorage. Amy could not handle the job as Mayor of Anchorage! She's angry, nasty and has one loose mouth that doesn't reflect the truth!

I want Dumbasski to win. I really don't like the people of Alaska. I can't wait to move out of this hellhole.

I'll be the last person in the world to be surprised if she win. I lost my faith in the people of Anchorage in 2009 when they voted for Greasy Dan Sullivan the first time. They've done nothing since 2009 that would make me think they suddenly got smart.

How does Provo keep the tax exempt status on his church when he obviously is politicking from the pulpit?

That is truly a mystery, especially since he's been doing it for decades.

By reliably turning out the votes for whichever reichwing candidate he wants to. Senator Sullivan probably kissed his feet too.

"Yesterday, Rev. Jerry Prevo’s Anchorage Baptist Temple celebrated “God and Country Day” with guest speaker Rev. Franklin Graham. Cue the politicians. Gov. Parnell, was out of town, but he provided a video thanking Rev. Graham for his work in Alaska with special praise for his commitment to the Wounded Warrior program. Others looking for the Prevo seal of approval: GOP senatorial candidates Mead Treadwell, Dan Sullivan, and Congressman Don Young, Independent governor hopeful Bill Walker wasn’t there, but his wife Donna was, as was Craig Fleener and his wife Uliana who are members of the church. House District 16 Republican nominee hopeful Don Hadley also showed."

So glad to hear this from Andrew. The Smart Guy in the room speaks up. I could not stand to watch the whole "debate" on Channel 11 yesterday, between Ethan and the dumbowski --- her rapid-fire frantic answers came across like someone who had to be sure to get ALL her scripted talking points crammed into the limited time. Palin 2.1.

I had to stop watching it too - she drove me nuts! Cannot imagine being around that woman for a long length of time.

Vote Ethan Berkowitz. Amy is not the woman to lead our great city. Can you imagine her negotiating or meeting with others? Yikes!!!!

It's so funny, I recognize these names and players in AK politics since Palin. Halcro and all of em'. They seem to be coming out of the woodwork now, peering out to see if the Palin stench is gone, and seeing the Heath/Palin clan have lost their power. Maybe finally some credible pols with genuine care for the State will make headway.

Hopefully, AK Democrats might find some new moderate Republican blood, which is willing to work together and get things done.

Jeez, Alaska sure does have short memories about putting complete fools and blithering idiots into elected office. The Repub candidate is a cutout of Palin with even less intelligence .. if that was humanly possible

    1. From what I've seen she has less humanity than Palin as well, if that's even possible.

I may not have the complete story on Halcro but he seems like a reasonable Republican. Especially during the whole dairy fiasco he seemed to have a good grasp on things, including how to fix it.

Of course I'd still be afraid to vote for him, never know when a real winger might break out inside him.

I feel a little sorry for Joey ,as he really loved Bristol but he is still friends with her family and friends so I take it he is happy for her that she's found happiness. After all, he is the first mature man she's dated. The first 2 were punks. The one prior to Joey used her as a money source. Funny that Bristol is good friends with one of John Paoletti's best friends.

O/T. Bill Kristol's rag, The Weekly Standard, is rather unflattering in its comments on Ms Palin:

    1. Well, I'm sure doing it at the last minute ensures that Halcro looks good but it does the least amount of harm to the Republican candidate.

If his intention was to really endorse Berkowitz, he would have spoken sooner so that it might actually have had an impact.
