General Petraeus accepts plea deal to avoid jail time.

Courtesy of The Guardian:

General David Petraeus, the pre-eminent wartime military officer of his generation, will plead guilty in a deal reached with the Justice Department to one count of passing classified information to a lover while he was director of the CIA.

The Justice Department announced the plea deal in a statement on Tuesday. The deal calls for two years’ probation and a $40,000 fine, with no prison time.

The FBI recommended that felony charges be brought against Petraeus in January, following an investigation of his relationship with Paula Broadwell, a member of the army reserve and Petraeus’s biographer.

The plea agreement was filed in the US district court for the western district of North Carolina’s Charlotte division. Broadwell and her family live in Charlotte.

Do you all remember when Roger Ailes attempted to recruit General Petraeus to run against President Obama in 2012?

David's defense was simple ... Your honor, she sucked my brain out and I did not know what I was doing.

What a mere slap on the wrist for disclosing secrets. Who knows to whom Broadwell talked. What's to keep her from writing another, tell all (and all about it) book.

So what? Even if she did, I can't see problems coming for her if the actual secret information wasn't exposed.

Do I agree this was a slap on the wrist that any other person would have been slammed for? Definitely. He DID get away with a slap.

He should have been executed. He provided his girlfriend with top secret information of our government.

Our justice system in America is a fucking mess!

A poor black kid who stole a cigar would get 10-15 years in the slammer or worse. Petraeus get a ticker tape parade. I still think he was closely involved in the death of Col. Ted Westhusing, and covered up the truth.

A poor black kid who stole a cigar would be shot in the head. A misdemeanor and a $40,000 fine for the flat-out treason Petraeus committed??????????

Actually, all those question marks are misleading, because actually---I'm not surprised at all.

10-15...no, that black kid would be shot on sight by white police. Meanwhile, the General walks away from being a traitor to this country.

ABC News said he got a Misdemeanor charge and a $40K fine. It's a slap on the wrist. He should have had a felony conviction (but then he would lose his voting rights and couldn't run for office and would have to disclose the felony on employment applications).

As the wife of a 22 year veteran,I am sickened by today's honor in the military. General Petraus gets away with being a traitor and a Medal of Honor recipient holds up a disgusting sign. I guess this is the "new" military.

If he had a felony conviction he would not only lose his right to vote, he would also lose his military pension. Protecting their own.... And now they will crucify Clinton for not breaking the letter of the law but for using her own e-mail account...

The asshole got off easy and should be in jail for the rest of his life. Our justice system truly sucks when it comes to those with wealth and high positions. If he'd been black, he would have been treated far differently!

Someone further down in the food chain who shared classified information about the US government with the person they were having an adulterous relationship with would be tried for treason.

President Obama has nominated such truly SHITTY agency heads, including this traitorous Republican. Luckily for Betray-us, he IS a Republican. When it comes to Obama's DOJ, that's a get out of jail free card.

Gryphen, his name is spelled wrong in the Heading of the post. It is "Petraeus" not "Petraeous" although I like 10:45's label General "Betrayus."

    1. You know I misspell his name all of the time for some reason.

      Thanks for letting me know.
