America is practically defenseless. If you ignore all that money we spend on defense.

Just imagine how much good we could do with our tax money if we were not so focused on using it to kill people in other countries.

And if we ever start to feel safe enough to spend our money on programs to benefit Americans, well that is the conservative's cue to fear monger and find a reason to start another war.

If repubs. were not so hell bent on starting more wars, the budget could be made more SENSIBLE. Let other countries, including Israel, fight their own battles. Israel starts uprisings, knowing the gop will send US troops into battle for them. Let's start taking care of our own, there have been too many deaths and mutilations of young servicepeople and civilians already. If the US would start minding their own business, it would not be hated and feared worldwide. WE are the cause of most of the unrest. Who can blame people for despising the USA, when they continually want to invade others, while spouting about "superiority" Too bad BRAINS are in such short supply in the repubs. party. All the Sunday Hate Obama shows will be packed with repubs. spouting the talking points from the Koch brothers. Between bashing Hillary, and destroying Social Security and Medicare, what do they have to talk about? Since they have done NOTHING for regular people in many, many years, they are worthy of contempt.

The well-entrenched war profiteers want to continue lining their pockets.

No wonder McCain wanted to bomb, bomb, bomb, Iran. Others want to go to war in Syria. Fight the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. It's always another war somewhere. Like Cheney and Bush, McCain and others in the GOP/tea must have monies invested in military industries stocks. War pays well for them. Ka-ching.

McCain, Bush, Cheney, Romney, Boehner and Cruz should be put on an island and bombed!

They are war mongers and would do everything within their power never to allow their sons and daughters, grandchildren, nephews and nieces to enlist in the military. They assuredly would not let them see military action in any wars throughout the world in which the USA is participating.

And, they could care less that the American minorities and poor are the majority now serving and experiencing the evilness of combat.

  4. The amount of the U.S. defense budget fits my definition of obscenity.

We need to stop warring (spelling!) in the middle east and need to cease providing money to Israel and that jerk that runs that country.

The government of the USA needs to build new roads, maintain those we have and fix our bridges, which will create jobs! The Republicans have blocked President Obama's actions in trying to do this! Boehner has blocked everything in the House of the U.S. Congress!

Republicans do nothing but harm our country - just look at the messes we are experiencing. Congress is rated very negatively and it's majority Republican. Hate and racism has spread throughout the country at the behest of the Republicans due to a black man being elected POTUS TWICE! They cannot stand it!

Vote Republicans out of office throughout the country!

  7. This doesn't fit with my preconceived article of faith that Obama has left us defenseless and would never do anything to hurt a country with any Muslims...

Surely we've disbanded our military by now...

I would love to see a similar graphic that shows how these ratios have changed since the US was founded and particularly since Eisenhower, who warned of the military industrial complex. I'm not sure defense spending has always been available to the public, however -- and so perhaps such a graphic is not possible.

We've had contracts with Government at work for years. During the Bush years, when the wars were at their peak, SOME companies took carte blanch and overcharged for everything. Our company always conducted itself honorably, but our bids are higher because of the costs. Since President Obama took over, the profits from these contracts became leaner, the money is spent more wisely and there are repercussions being enforced for the cheaters. I hate being part of a company that feeds the war machine, but proud that this president takes his job seriously along with the frugal use of our tax dollars.

  10. How about if we only spent twice as much as the next country on the list? What would that bring the total down to? 45% of our budget? 30%?

And yes, just think of everything we could do with the money that we had.

But that will never happen. The Military Industrical complex and it's accompanying corporations won't be content until they have as close to 100% of our tax dollars as they possibly can get. Then we can start giving them Federal land until it's all gone too.
